Annual
July
4th Fireworks: Lake Union Boating Spectators Anchor Locations
The
sponsors for the 2010 Lake Union Fireworks show is unprecedented.
All of the 250+ sponsors can be found at: http://www.familyfourth.org/donors.htm
.
In
this trying time of high unemployment and struggling families,
we want to thank all of the sponsors for supporting the continued
celebration tradition recognizing the efforts of our United
States Military and our United States Independence. This fireworks
show of patriotism is a reflection of everyone. Freedom is
precious and we should not take it lightly. This Fireworks
display shows how our citizens pull to together to be successful
and recognize our nations history, fallen military and Americas
future. This fireworks show demonstrates in a small but important
way, that the U.S. Government doesn't need to give handouts
for everyone or penalize a few in order that we all can enjoy
what the United States has to offer. Private individuals and
private companies have made it possible for this patriotic
display just as American Entrepreneurs have supported our
country and its people for hundreds of years.
On
the water this year (2010) there will be an extended safety
zone for boaters on Lake Union. This is the same as last year
(2009). Generally large crowds pack Gas Works Park to watch
fireworks shot from a barge in the lake. In past years, boaters
could raft between the barge and the crowd on shore. This
year, boaters viewing the fireworks, will be allowed to
anchor only at the south end of the lake, far from the
crowds. The Montlake and Fremont channels will be closing
between 9 and 9:30 PM and Harbor Patrol will not allow any
more boats to enter Lake Union until the fireworks show is
finished. So get there early if you want to watch the show
from your boat! You may consider using a double anchor to
fix your boat in position. Please be courteous with those
around you. Other boaters may swing on only one anchor so
be careful how you anchor, PLEASE be patient and be safe.
A
larger map showing the boat anchorage designated by the Harbor
Patrol can be found at:
Family
4th July 2010 Anchorages in Lake Union .
The
established mooring adjustment location is a safety measure
- vessels have in recent years intruded into the Coast Guard
exclusion zone around the barge. The zone is maintained by
the City of Seattle Harbor Patrol.
In
Elliott Bay, the Coast Guard's jurisdiction, boaters watching
the fireworks display are reminded that 500 yard security
zones remain in place around all Navy Vessels. This year,
fireworks displays around Puget Sound will burst forth, not
necessarily on Elliott Bay but in other parts of Puget Sound.
Government Vessels will have the security zones in effect.
